A 23-year-old woman was in serious condition Sunday after her boyfriend viciously attacked her with a cleaver in broad daylight on a Chinatown street, officials said.
Police say firefighters who were at a nearby firehouse saw the 28-year-old suspect drag the victim by her hair near Canal Street and Allen Street around 10:20 a.m. and start hacking her. The firefighters restrained the man before he could hurt her more, according to cops.
The victim, who was taken Bellevue Medical Center, suffered cuts to her face, back and hip, but the injuries were not life threatening.
The suspect, who was not identified by press time, was charged by police was awaiting arraignment at Manhattan Criminal Court last night, police said.
