Developers revealed their vision for the Williamsburg waterfront Monday and they promised it would be a “sweet” addition to the city.
Two Trees Management Company, which bought the old Domino Sugar factory in October, will transform the 3.3 million square foot-space into a mixed-use complex that will include offices, luxury apartments and a park.
Jed Walentas, the principal at Two Trees said the community helped with the design of the project with numerous meetings and input.
“As in all of our projects, Two Trees is committed to Williamsburg for the long haul. That’s why we feel so strongly about building a neighborhood we can be proud of,” he said in a statement.
The city initially approved a redevelopment plan for the site in 2010, but Two Trees submitted a new $1.5 billion proposal that will go before a public review.
It includes high-rise building that will include 2,284 apartments, 660 of which will be affordable units, and retail space on the ground floor.
The developers said the project, that is slated to begin construction next year, if OKd, will create between 3,000 and 4,000 jobs.
In addition to the buildings, there are plans for a five-acre park along the waterfront that includes kayak launches, a floating pool and sports fields.
