Dozens of well wishers, including City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, were on hand to see City Counilman Jimmy Van Bramer wed his partner of 13 years, Dan Hendrick.
During the ceremony at Studio Square in Long Island City on Saturday, Van Bramer (D-Sunnyside) thanked supporters for helping get gay marriage legalized last year and promoting an atmosphere where same-sex married couples are accepted.
“For over 13 years we have been in a committed and loving relationship, yet before marriage equality passed last year, we were denied the right marry one another,” he said in a statement.
Van Bramer is the second council member to have a same-sex wedding. In May, Quinn married her partner, Kim Catullo.
