NYPD’s “stop and frisk” policy more transparent.

Android users will be able to record video of any incident of the tactic being used with the program, called the Stop and Frisk Watch.

NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman stressed that the program is meant only for bystanders who observe the practice taking place.

“The NYPD always says if you see something, say something,” she said. “Well, we’re now saying if you see something, there’s an app for that.”

The free app will send the video and a detailed report of the incident to the NYCLU, which will use the data to document cases, Lieberman said.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne questioned whether the app compromises users’ privacy.

“What stops an intern there or anyone else from sending video of a suspect — not yet accused of a crime — to friends or posting it on YouTube?” he asked.

Lieberman reassured that her group would keep the data secure.
