More than half of Americans are open to legalizing pot, a according to a poll released Thursday.
The Pew Research Center said it is the first time in its 40 years of polling on the issue that a majority say the government should decriminalize marijuana.
While millennials are the leading force behind the 52% in support, which is up by 20% since 2002, there was an increase in all age groups.
The study also found: Only 32% of the 1,501 people polled found smoking marijuana morally unacceptable.
About 72% said government efforts to enforce pot laws cost more than they are worth.
Politically, 37% of Republicans and 59% of Democrats support pot legalization.
