A Queens judge sentenced yesterday a 28-year-old Flushing man who admitted to stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in her apartment nearly four years ago, the Queens district attorney said.
Segundo Penafiel, of Roosevelt Avenue, will be spending 24 years in prison for the manslaughter of Ebony Garcia, 22, back on August 23, 2008, according to Queens DA Richard Brown.
Penafiel pleaded guilty to his charge early this month and said during the early morning hours that day he went to Garcia’s College Point home and stabbed her several times throughout her body, the DA said.
The next week he was arrested in Texas just before he was about to flee to Mexico, according to Brown.
“The defendant’s admission of guilt and the lengthy prison sentence imposed today by the court brings closure to the family of the victim and protects the residents of Queens County from a violent predator,” the DA said in a statement.
