A Manhattan grand jury indicted the man who confessed to the 1979 killing of Etan Patz Wednesday to face his charges.
Patz disappeared on May 25, 1979, on his first walk alone to the bus on his way to school. The DA brought the cold case came back into the spotlight this spring and had investigators dig the streets near the family’s home, but found no new evidence.
Hernandez, who at the time worked at a deli near the Patz home in Soho, confessed in May to luring the boy and strangling him.
The deli has since been transformed into an eyeglass store and cops haven’t been able to find the boy’s body despite an extensive search of the nearby area and landfills in the tri-state area.
