A group of cops braved ice cold waters over the weekend to save a pair of boaters who were kayaking in Jamaica Bay a day after the snowstorm.
A police helicopter responded to a 911 call around 3 p.m. Saturday of two unidentified 32-year-old men who fell out of their boat. A pair police divers jumped out of the copter into the water and rescued one of the victims.
The four-person NYPD team took the unidentified man to Floyd Bennett Field and then transported to Kings County Hospital for hypothermia.
While the team in the helicopter was making their rescue, another officer responded to the scene and saw the second victim swimming toward a boat. The officer put on a wet suit, swam 200 yards to the boat and attended to the victim who was also suffering symptoms of hypothermia.
A NYPD harbor unit arrived at the boat and took the officer and victim to shore.
EMS crews sent the victim to Jamaica Hospital and sent the officer to Lutheran Hospital to treat them both for hypothermia.
All three men were in stable condition, the police said.
