Coney Island’s rebounding boardwalk and attractions will be in the spotlight for the city’s ongoing tourism campaign, which added a striped star to its celebrity endorsers.
Starting Wednesday, NYC & Company, the city’s tourism wing, will feature Coney Island in its Neighborhood x Neighborhood campaign, which showcases outer-borough destinations for tourists.
Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate D. Levin said the community worked hard during the past few months to recover from Superstorm Sandy, and the neighborhood is perfect for visitors who want some fun.
“From the Mermaid Parade to the Coney Island History Project to the New York Aquarium, the return of this community’s unique cultural offerings is great news for visitors who will flock to the boardwalk all summer long,” she said in a statement. The locations featured in the promotional campaign include MCU Park, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, the Cyclone and the aquarium.
The city launched the campaign earlier this year to build upon its record 52 million visitors last year. Other communities in the program include Bushwick, Battery Park City and the South Bronx.
NYC & Company also announced a multimedia campaign featuring Waldo of “Where’s Waldo?” fame. The bespectacled children’s book character helps visitors find the best family-friendly destinations in the city on NYC & Company’s website and in ads.
