Vandals have struck back against a controversial subway ad campaign aimed at slamming enemies of Israel.
The subway posters, which havethe message, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel, Defeat Jihad,” were tagged Tuesday with stickers that say “racist” and “hate speech.”
The MTA declined to comment about the graffiti and no one has claimed responsibility.
The agency initially rejected the ads by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, saying it found them demeaning. A federal court, however, forced the MTA to run the ads this week, angering groups of all religious backgrounds.
A woman spray painting one of the posters at the Union Square station was arrested by police after she got into a fight with another woman who defended the ads, according to a video posted by the New York Post. Details of the arrest could not be confirmed with the NYPD at press time.
